“Sette Giugno” – Maltese National holiday

“Sette Giugno” (7thof June in Italian) is a national holiday celebrated in Malta. It commemorates the events, which happened on 7 June in 1919. It was the time when Malta was under the British government, which couldn’t manage with the crisis after the WWI and failed to supply the basic food provision for the Maltese island.

The rising prices of bread and lack of food motivated the Maltese population to start riots. British troops fired into the crowd, killed 4 and injured 50 people.

Seventh of June has become an important day in the fight for the Independence of the Maltese population.

Every year this event is celebrated in Valletta, beautifully decorated for this date.
